Hypophysitis

Hypophysitis is an inflammatory disease of the pituitary gland.

There are the following forms:

  • lymphocytic hypophysitis;
  • granulomatous hypophysitis;
  • xanthomatous hypophysitis;

Possible clinical signs:

  • increased pituitary gland;
  • headache;
  • visual impairment;
  • hypopituitarism;
  • hyperprolactinemia;
  • diabetes insipidus;

Diagnosis of hypophysitis

To verify the diagnosis, surgical intervention is carried out with a biopsy of the pituitary gland and further histopathology report.

Treatment of hypophysitis

If there is no impairment of visual function (loss of visual fields, compression of the optic nerves, chiasma), then, in the presence of hypopituitarism, medical replacement therapy is carried out.
